What is product stewardship?

What is product stewardship?

At Anew, we believe that we need to take responsibility for the waste we create and that it is our responsibility to turn it into something new.

Product stewardship is the responsible management of a product throughout its entire life cycle. This includes the design, production, use, and end-of-life disposal of a product. The goal of product stewardship is to minimize the negative impact of a product on human health and the environment, while maximizing its social and economic benefits.

Product stewardship is a holistic approach that takes into account the entire life cycle of a product. This means that companies are responsible for ensuring that the products they produce are designed, manufactured, and disposed of in a way that is safe and sustainable. This includes selecting safe and sustainable raw materials, manufacturing products in a way that minimizes environmental impacts, and properly disposing of products at the end of their useful lives. It also includes making sure that the product is used in the most efficient and safe way by the customer.

Product stewardship can also involve the use of extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes, where producers are responsible for the environmental impacts of their products throughout their entire life cycle. These schemes may require producers to take back and recycle their products at the end of their useful lives, or to contribute to the cost of recycling or waste management.

Product stewardship is becoming more important as the world becomes more affected by the environmental and human health impacts of the products we use, and as companies are held increasingly responsible for the products they produce. By taking a proactive approach to product stewardship, companies can reduce their environmental and social impacts and ultimately improve our world for the future.
