Independent laboratory testing. No microplastics detected.
Most bottles tested straight off the filling line come back clean.
The microplastics are not there yet.
They are created later. Between the filling line and the fridge, before it reaches your hands. Heat, pressure, vibration, and time are what cause the plastic in glass, aluminium and plastic bottles to shed into the water inside it. Testing a bottle before that journey tells you almost nothing.
So anew did it differently.
The Test
We filled bottles in New Zealand, shipped them around the world by container (no climate control) to the United States, trucked them to Las Vegas storage, then sent them to an independent laboratory. The worst journey possible, on purpose, as this is what would get a real result.
The Result: No Microplastics
Why other formats are not as clean as they look
-
Glass. Independent testing on water bought off the shelf found more microplastic particles in glass bottles than in plastic ones. The particles matched the cap and seal, not the glass itself. Every time a glass bottle is packed, shipped and shelved, the lid grinds against the glass. The French food safety agency tested whether cleaning the caps fixes it: blowing out and rinsing took contamination from 287 particles per litre to 87. It reduces it. It does not stop it. Brands that test straight from the filling line, are not getting the same result you will get at the fridge.
-
Aluminium. Every aluminium can and metal bottle is lined with plastic, or the liquid would react with the metal. Most say nothing about that lining. Look for it, or google it: brands that removed BPA usually say so, so confirm they have, but, check they have not swapped in BPS or another bisphenol, a regrettable substitution.
-
Standard plastic. Made from oil, generally contains substances we would rather avoid, built to be used once. It is a given that most PET bottles will contain microplastics.
What anew is made without
No microplastics detected — independently tested after a real-life journey
Made without BPA and BPS — independently tested by SGS, November 2024
Made without PFAS — all 18 analytes non-detect, EPA 537.1 method
Made without phthalates and nonylphenol
100% bio-based carbon certified — Beta Analytic, ASTM D6866
No petroleum-based plastic. No aluminium liner. No hidden plastic seal under the lid.
The independent reports
We commissioned these independently. Nobody asked us to. We publish them because the evidence is the point.

We have been at this for over a decade. We are not done. We are proud of what we have achieved on this journey towards removing the compromises out of bottled water. We will continue to innovate and ensure we are putting the best possible bottle, and water into the world.
